Our Purpose | Our Mission | Our Vision

The essence of PVTRA's purpose, mission, and vision, align with our commitment to education, heritage preservation, and the advancement of agricultural pursuits.

Purpose

The Prairie View Trail Ride Association (PVTRA) is dedicated to fostering the agricultural interests of young Americans while perpetuating the cherished principles and traditions of the Western World and the invaluable Black Western Heritage. As an ardent supporter of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, PVTRA extends its commitment to advancing educational programs at Prairie View A&M University.

Mission

PVTRA's mission is to actively promote and cultivate the passion for agriculture, equine pursuits, and rodeo activities among the youth. We are steadfast in our commitment to preserving the ways and travel of yesteryears, bridging historical gaps from the Buffalo Soldier's era where the participation of blacks went unrecorded. Furthermore, we aim to establish pathways for graduates of agricultural and mechanical colleges and universities, connecting them with diverse and rewarding agriculturally related careers.

Vision

Our vision at PVTRA is to be a beacon of honor and promotion for the Black Western Heritage, with a particular focus on the Buffalo Soldiers. We aspire to educate and inspire the younger generation, nurturing future cowboys and cowgirls who embody the timeless values and traditions of the Western World. Additionally, we envision a community where the image of the black cowboy is elevated, recognizing and celebrating their significant contributions to Western history.
